In a CBS News poll... a plurality of Americans, 42 percent, said racism was a more serious problem for the country compared to 10 percent who said sexism was the more serious problem."
I beg to differ, with the following explanation. White men still feel more comfortable sharing power with men of color than they do with white women or women of color. The 15th Amendment to the Constitution, granting black men the right to vote, was ratified in 1870. The 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote on the federal level, came 50 years later. Old habits die hard.

The hatred escalated to performers advocating
Palin be "gang raped," to suggestions that her husband had had sex with their
young daughters, and reports that her Down syndrome child really was that of her
teenage daughter. One columnist even called for her to submit to DNA testing to
prove her virtue. Smells a little like Salem to me. I was present at an Obama
rally at which the mention of Palin's name drew shouts of "stone her."
"Stone her"? How biblical.
All this is at a time when women are regularly being raped as they try to cross
the border into the United States; bloody, broken women haunt the emergency
rooms of hospitals; and abuse and disrespect for women and girls is rising
faster than bank bailouts. That is the atmosphere in which people, including
women, choose to attempt to destroy a woman who is a legitimate political
leader.
Agreement on issues is not required, but Palin merits respect....Mockery and
vilification of women such as Palin should become just as taboo as race-based
slams. Until then, women are the real losers.

emancipation in the United States, and perhaps even worldwide. It will
undoubtedly take perhaps as long as eight years, perhaps more, for another
capable woman may try to beat the odds, and enter the White House in an official
position.
From the perspective of women’s emancipation, it’s a sad prediction but, I
think, more than likely.

Ms. Backus stepped beyond the boundaries of gender equality by referring to Palin as a "fluffy bunny" 2 weeks after Hugh Hefner (the infamous owner of Playboy) asked Palin to pose nude for his magazine. Ms. Backus....you do NOT have our backs!

For One Night, Candidates Trade Jokes Instead of Attacks
The occasion was the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner, which has drawn the contenders in most presidential election years to the white-tie event in Manhattan. The evening was like dessert for the politically minded, filled with inside jokes from a campaign that has lasted nearly two years.
It's a pit stop from a grueling campaign that showed the best of both men - with their humor and their willingness to help a charitable cause. It's also a longstanding tradition and according to the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner website "...the dinner has attracted the cream of modern American politics: the list of speakers and attendees reads like a who's who of the political landscape." They provide one with that impressive list on their site.
How many Women-Americans are on this amazingly bipartisan list filled with the names of former presidents, honorables, admirals, generals and misters? TWO!!! Over SIXTY years and with a list of over 75 VIPs only TWO Women-Americans have represented this important event and cause!!!
